Paraformaldehyde (PFA) is the smallest polyoxymethylene, the polymerization product of formaldehyde with a typical degree of polymerization of 8–100 units. Paraformaldehyde can be depolymerized, the resulting formaldehyde may be used as a fumigant, disinfectant, fungicide, and fixative.
